Frequently asked questions
How do I begin therapy for myself?
I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation, during which we will discuss what brings you to therapy and how I can help. Please contact me through the Contact page or click on the Consultation button to schedule a call. If we decide we are a good fit, we will begin weekly sessions as soon as scheduling allows. The first two sessions typically include a clinical interview, discussion of current challenges bringing you to therapy, and treatment plan. Treatment begins with the third session.
How do I begin therapy for my child or teen?
We will schedule a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your child’s current challenges at home, school, and in other settings. The clinical intake typically takes two hours, one hour with your child and one hour with you. During your interview, I will gather background information, which will allow me to create and share a comprehensive treatment plan. I provide support on how to communicate with your child about starting therapy.
How long are sessions?
With exception of the intake meeting, which is up to 60 minutes, sessions are typically 45-50 minutes. We will meet weekly initially, though frequency of sessions can be revisited later in treatment.
Do you accept insurance?
I am an out-of-network provider, which means I do not accept insurance. However, I provide documentation for you to seek reimbursement from your insurance provider in the form of a monthly superbill. I recommend contacting your insurance provider and inquiring about your out-of-network benefits, including which CPT code is reimbursed. I use the CPT codes 90791 (intake session), 90837 (60-minute therapy session) and 90834 (45-minute therapy session).
Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical and mental health care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the expected charges for medical services, including psychotherapy services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency healthcare services, including psychotherapy services.
You can ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule a service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
